Women’s Soccer Announces Addition to Coaching Staff
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer head coach Glenn Crooks announced the addition of William Bustamante to the coaching staff, where he will serve as assistant coach and Director of Soccer Operations. "Billy is all about the game and the development of players," said Crooks. "Players respond to his positive instruction and he brings a high level of experience to our coaching staff. I look forward to learning from a man with a vast knowledge of the game developed playing professionally in his native Ecuador and in the states."
Bustamante comes to RU after many years in the business world, including last year with the company he founded, B'Elite Player Development, an organization that provides soccer training services to individuals, groups, teams and clubs throughout New Jersey. Before entering the business world, Bustamante played soccer professionally for six years, first with the New Jersey Dragons of the USISL Professional League from 1992-94, then with Olmedo in the First Division Professional League in Ecuador from 1996-98. Bustamante attended Montclair State University, where he was a freshman All-American, before transferring to Monmouth University. He was a two-time All-NEC selection with the Hawks, and received his Business Administration degree in 1992. Bustamente attended St. Benedict's Preparatory High School in Newark, N.J., where he was a two-time All-State selection. The New Jersey native also has coaching experience, most recently with the 2008 State Champion PDA Power U 18 girls and the 2007 State Champion PDA Clash U 11 girls. In 2002-03, Bustamante went on a US Soccer Tour, observing and participating on training methods and philosophies of teams like the Glasgow Rangers, Real Madrid and the Ecuador National Team.
Rutgers Women's Soccer Standouts Guthrie, Anzivino Selected In WPS Draft PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 15, 2010) – Rutgers senior captains Erin Guthrie (Sparta, N.J.) and Jen Anzivino (Middletown, N.J.) were selected in the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pa. The pair became the second and third Scarlet Knights to join the WPS. Guthrie was selected by the FC Gold Pride of the San Francisco Bay Area. The RU captain was taken with the third pick in the fourth round. The FC Gold Pride tallied a 4-10-6 record last season with three shutouts. “When I first saw my name up there, going to FC Gold Pride, I went from being extremely nervous to extremely excited,” said Guthrie. “I am so pumped to be playing next year. I don’t think I have ever been so excited in my life. There is so much talent on this team and I’m looking forward to helping the team in any way I can.” Anzivino will be back on Yurcak Field with the WPS Champion Sky Blue FC. Anzivino, originally chosen in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Independence, was traded to Sky Blue. Sky Blue FC won the inaugural WPS Championship after finishing the season with a 7-8-5 record. Anzivino will join former Rutgers standout Carli Lloyd ‘On the Banks’ in 2010.
